About Us

Pointers Who Care is an independent, registered non-profit organisation, comprising ex-students of South Point High School, along with friends and supporters. Our sole objective is to care for our beloved retired teachers.

The idea

The concept of forming a team, whose mission would include efforts toward contributing to the well-being of our ex-teachers, crystallized at around April 2008, during a Medical Camp that was organised for the retired teachers of South Point Junior School and South Point High School. A number of ex-students who took the initiative to contact the retired teachers found many of them living alone, some in helpless conditions, and a few in dire need of emotional, medical or financial support.

The execution

It did not take long to locate a significant number of ex-Pointers who were eager to pledge their time and resources to care for the ex-teachers. During much of 2008 and early 2009, a team of dedicated volunteers operated under the aegis of an association of ex-students of SPHS -- an organisation affiliated with the current administration of South Point High School. During its tenure as a subsidiary of the school alumni association, the team was known as Care Wing, and accomplished many worthwhile goals, with the help of ex-Pointers from all the world over. In time, a significant portion of the team recognized the imperative to operate as an independent organisation, with autonomy in decision making and financial oversight. Most critically, a substantial number of team members expressed an interest in an entity whose sole objective would be to care for the ex-teachers, sans the numerous social events and festivities that characterise a typical alumni organisation.

The transition

Subsequently, the original founding members of the Care Wing chose to withdraw their affiliation with the alumni association, which operates as a subsidiary of the current corporate administration of the school.

In April 2009, Pointers Who Care, an independent organization that engages directly with its stakeholders, was born.
