As an ex-Pointer, you must have fond memories of your Junior and/or High School. We don't think you will ever be able to forget those kind, nurturing teachers who toiled so very hard to give you the education you have. It is because of them, in great measure, we Pointers are who we are today! They were there to hold our hands when we were tiny and weak. Now, they need our support!
Please, won't you help? Won't you too dare to care?
You can help in one or more of the following ways:
For us, because of our cultural heritage perhaps, taking care of our elders is not only a duty, it is so very rewarding! Doesn't it feel good to know that you have the ability to make an aging teacher smile! You can give her (or him) the company, which she (or he) secretly longs for, when no one else has the time or the care. If your life's situation permits you to spare the time, we invite you to become a Primary Care Giver (PCG) for a teacher who needs one.
A Primary Care Giver acts with the moral responsibility of a son or daughter, the compassion of a very good friend, and the judgment of a caring guardian. As a PCG, you will not only visit and call your teacher frequently, you will report back to the rest of the group about your interactions and be guided by them in your interchanges with your teacher. How you will care for your teacher is often between you and your teacher. There are some guidelines that the group will have for you (the entire team is always eager to support you), but it will be your special relationship!
Not many people are fortuitous enough to be able to do this. Are you? If you think you might be interested, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Perhaps, you live too far away to be a PCG. Perhaps, close interpersonal interchanges is just not your thing. No matter, you can still be of invaluable aid to our teachers. You can become a Supporter of Pointers Who Care and provide the team with a wide range of support services. You certainly have skill in many professional (and perhaps some extra-curricular) domains! You must - you are a Pointer, after all!
You can help the team with help in areas of administration, logistics, event planning and execution, public and media relations, decision making, and leadership. Perhaps, you may be able to provide non-monetary assistance, such the use of vehicles, equipment, medical supplies, office supplies, food supplies, articles of clothing and much more.
Most importantly, you can help us in building our network. Our efforts need to reach far and wide, and we must have a large, committed group of people who care for their ex-teachers.
It is quite possible that you have ideas we haven't even thought of yet! We need you in our team.
Contact us, please, if you are able to help.
Today, they say, it is often easier for a person to write a few cheques than to spare some time. While that is true for many individuals, there are others who cannot make their physical selves available even if they want to. Fortunate as we are, on account of our education at South Point to some degree, we span the globe and have fulfilling occupations in many countries. In large measure, we owe our successes to our extraordinary ex-teachers, who shaped our minds and talents with such care.
It is heart-breaking to see some of our beloved ex-teachers living alone, often in trying financial circumstances. We wouldn't be able to turn a blind eye to such conditions if they ever befell our loved ones. We have to ask ourselves, "Have we any love in our hearts for those who truly loved us as children?"
We are a registered, non-profit organisation with no "employees." Our 100% volunteer force of highly-educated Pointers, with unimpeachable ethical values, working in an organization with audited, transparent financials, will make your contributions work harder than anywhere else! In addition, your donations to PWC may be a tax write-off, depending on your local tax laws. Please contact us with your support.
