Medical Camp (Eye)   [28. Aug. 2009 - 22:00]
It was a very gratifying experience for all members of PWC who took part in today's Eye Camp for our retired Teachers. The smooth operation was possible because of the sense of time and responsibility, which has now become a hallmark of all PWC volunteers. Not a miss, not a slip, not a hiccup anywhere!

The last minute supply of a vehicle by one PWC member, along with another member coming forward as a volunteer, helped us manage the event exceedingly well.

All our respected Teachers were brought to the venue well in time,  The waiting time was reduced to a minimum because of complete cooperation of the Doctor and his team of efficient nursing staff.

We were ready to drop back the Teachers as soon as each finished his or her checkup.  But, they insisted on staying back! The cozy corner in the Drishti Pradip waiting room soon turned into an adda zone for ten teachers -- Gopa Burman Aunty, Alpana Ghosh Aunty, Rama Ghosh Aunty, Diptikona Majumdar Aunty, Dipali Sinha Roy Aunty, Abha Guha Aunty, Lakshmi Das Aunty, Sripurna Chowdhury Aunty, Nandita Sarkar Aunty and Archan Dey Sir, along with five PWC volunteers.

The Teachers were extremely touched by the way our attending doctor, the eye specialist, dealt each case with utmost care!

Some Teachers were detected of early stage of cataract development, while for others it was a simple case of power correction. For Teachers who are financially vulnerable, the prescribed medicines were purchased and change of glasses were ordered by the team members.

The PWC leadership made a special appearance at the end of the show.  It was then that we spoke to our doctor privately regarding the formation of our organisation, PWC.  He was gracious in promising us all possible support in our venture.

We requested him to accept a token amount for establishment cost for the 2-hour camp.  He, however, refused to accept it, until he was told that it was donated by a PWC member to commemorate her mother's birth anniversary.

Overall, a it was a spectacular success; the first Medcamp of PWC could not have gone any better. The glow of happiness on the faces of our Teachers as they got into the cars blessing us profusely, said it all.  That, indeed, was our greatest reward.
