With deep regret and a profound sense of loss, Pointers Who Care announces the passing away of our beloved Nandita (Palit) Dasgupta Aunty, at about 4:00 AM, 22 April 2012, at her home, succumbing to a cardiac arrest.
At the time of her passing away, Nandita Dasgupta was survived by her husband Somesh Sir, an ex-teacher of legendary status among ex-students of South Point High School. Sadly, only within a little over two months of Nandita Aunty's departure, Somesh Sir too passed away on 29 June 2012.
Thousands of ex-students will fondly remember Nandita Aunty and Somesh Sir as the iconic representatives of the 'new generation' of student-friendly teachers, who -- during their early years at SPHS -- built an enduring bridge between the older teachers and students with their personal charm, brilliance and charisma.
Nandita Aunty's tenure at South Point High School spanned the years 1966 and 2004. Even after retirement, Nandita Aunty continued to be adored and admired by scores of students who kept in touch with her on a regular basis. It will not be an exaggeration to say that Nandita Aunty was very special. She will continue to live on forever in the hearts and minds of her countless students, now situated all the world over!
