Bijoya Sammelani [23. Oct. 2011 - 23:00] |
The flagship programme of PWC, Bijoya Sammelani, was organized by PWC with much fervor, as is done every year. In the august presence of over seventy teachers, the evening was filled with music, speeches, confabulations, reminiscence, food, flowers and, most importantly, love, respect, and companionship for the teachers. Eminent Pointers, such as, Ms. Antara Dev Sen and noted danseuse Professor Sruti Bandyopadhyay, shared their memories of SPHS while renowned thespian, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, enthralled all with a superb rendition of Buddhadeb Basu's Prothom Partha. At the request of the teachers , PWC Patron and leading neurosurgeon, Dr. Amitava Chanda, sang some popular numbers in his usual mellifluent manner. Eventually, many (perhaps, most) of teachers ended up humming the tune of "Purano Sei Diner Kotha". The teachers were given a souvenir as a gift –the Times Sharodiya Shomoy. This was made possible by the kind munificence of The Times of India. [Click here for photos.] |
Cultural Program [16. Aug. 2011 - 23:00] |
Tanmoy Bose, Grammy award winner percussionist and a Pointer, made passes available for SPS and SPHS ex-teachers for his programme, featuring operatic rendition of Tasher Desh, with choreography by Bangladeshi dancers. The event was performed at Kalamandir on the 16th August. We are grateful to Mr. Bose for giving us the opportunity to take some of our retired teachers to the programme. As requested by Mr. Bose, several of his teachers were clearly touched by the gesture extended to them by their very distinguished ex-student. The teachers were witness to an excellent cultural programme, involving wonderful choreography by Wardha Rihab from Bangladesh. Included in those involved with the production were Lopamudra, Rupankar, Anesheh, among others. The boundaries of contemporary music were surpassed in a sublime manner, with masterful ease, by music director, Tanmoy Bose. Those of Mr. Bose's teachers who could not attend the programme, for various reasons, went out of their way to extend their heartfelt blessings to Mr. Bose. |
Cardiology Camp [31. Jul. 2011 - 23:00] |
A Medical Camp on Cardiology was held on 31st July, 2011 at one of the largest and best known cardiac hospital in the city. More than twenty ex-teachers attended the camp, and made it an an overwhelmingly successful event. The camp commenced with the collection of vital data of teachers, such as address, age, blood groups, etc. Next, individual files were prepared based on the information. Thereafter, the teachers were guided through ECG test lab. The initial consultation was conducted by a junior doctor on a one-to-one basis, for the purpose of preparaing comprehensive reports of medication history, ailment records, etc. Finally, the teachers were sent for the ECG tests. The final consultation was done by the senior most cardiac specialist. The event ended with refreshments for the teachers. Afterwards, those who needed transportation were dropped off at their homes (or whatever desitinations they need to arrive at). Much appreciation was showered on the PWC volunteers by the teachers. The volunteers themselves went home with a great sense of satisfaction. |

The camp started at around 9:00 AM in the morning and, within a short while a few teachers began arriving with the students responsible for their transportation. The camp ended at about 12 noon. Many teachers mentioned that they truly appreciated the camp; a few of the teachers were diagnosed with some real problems and were advised with necessary medications by the consulting specialist. The camp concluded with a presentation of a token of gratitude to Dr. Atri Banerjee, for volunteering his precious time for our teachers and providing them with an extremely valuable service. Dental Camp [30. Apr. 2011 - 22:00] |
On 30th April 2011, Pointers Who Care organized a Dental Camp for our Teachers. The event started around 10 AM and lasted till about 1:30 PM, during which time, over a dozen teachers, a few of whom had brought their spouses, received comprehensive dental check-ups. Conveyance to and from the venue was provided by PWC, and most Teachers availed of that arrangement. At the end of the event, Pointers Who Care thanked the care providers for their dedicated service, and presented a memento to the Doctor in charge. As is always the case in events in which our Teachers congregate, many stayed back for a while for confabulations among themselves and PWC members, a few went shopping along with a PWC member or two. Gradually, another stellar PWC event came to a close. [Click here for photos.] |
